SyncCue User Guide
What is SyncCue?
SyncCue is a professional tool for connecting and synchronizing dubbing studios, operators, and talents, enabling real-time timecode sync and remote workflow control. It integrates with Dubbing Desk and is managed by your studio administrator.
Getting Started
MIDI Setup for SyncCue
To enable real-time timecode synchronization, SyncCue requires your system to have a virtual RTP MIDI port configured.
The setup steps differ slightly by operating system:
For Windows Users

Install RTP MIDI:

Download and install RTP MIDI by Tobias Erichsen.

Follow the installation prompts to complete the setup.

Configure Your RTP Session:

Open the “rtpMIDI” application.
-
Create a new session in the “My Sessions” pane, using the port shown in SyncCue Viewer or provided by your studio administrator.

Make sure your computer is discoverable and the session is enabled.

Start SyncCue:
-
SyncCue will connect to the RTP MIDI session for timecode synchronization.

For macOS Users
-
Use Audio MIDI Setup:

Open the “Audio MIDI Setup” app (find it via Spotlight).

From the menu, go to Window → Show MIDI Studio.

Double-click the Network icon to open the MIDI Network Setup.

Create and Configure a Session:
-
In “My Sessions,” click the “+” button to create a new session, using the port shown in SyncCue Viewer or provided by your studio administrator.

Name your session and make sure Enabled is checked.

Tip:
If you have issues with MIDI connections, ensure that your firewall allows UDP traffic on the relevant port, and that your DAW is set to use the same session.
In your DAW (Example: AVID Pro Tools)

Open Pro Tools and go to:
Setup → Peripherals -
Synchronization Tab:

In the Synchronization tab, locate the MTC Generator Port dropdown.

Select your virtual MIDI port (created via RTP MIDI or Network MIDI).

Machine Control Tab:
-
Go to the Machine Control tab.
-
Enable MIDI Machine Control Remote.

Leave the Device ID at the default value (127).
-

Edit/Transport Window:
-
Make sure the Synchronization module is visible at the top of the Edit window.

The MTC button should be active.

You can also enable MTC from the transport control (Ctrl/Cmd + 1).

If Synchronization options aren’t visible, enable them from the window menu.

Ready!
Pro Tools will now send or receive timecode via your selected MIDI port for SyncCue integration.
Setting up SyncCue Server
Download and Install

Download the SyncCue installer from the official website.

Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
First Launch and Activation

The first time you run SyncCue, you’ll see the onboarding window.

Read and accept the Terms of Service.

Enter your License Key provided by your studio or system administrator.

If your license and seat are valid, activation will complete and the tray icon will appear.
Tray Menu Overview
Right-click the SyncCue tray icon to access options:

🟢 Start SyncCue / 🔴 Stop SyncCue

Status: Shows current server state
-
Start on login: Toggle automatic startup

Documentation: Opens the official user guide

About SyncCue: See product info
-
Visit Website: Opens the official SyncCue site

Quit: Closes SyncCue
Status Icons

Green/Active: Server is running and ready
-
Red/Stopped: Server is not running
Re-Activation
-
If your license or seat changes, you may be asked to re-activate.

Click Activate Booth in the tray menu to re-enter your license.

SyncCue Viewer
You’re all set! Whether you launch the viewer from Dubbing Desk or use the standalone version, just open SyncCue and you’re ready to record with synchronized scripts, timecode, and much more.
